Gemma Jordan

Our founder and Principle instructor, Gemma, has seen rapid growth in the bachata scene becoming a sought after instructor at events Nationally and taking 1st place in an International Pro Level Competition in 2025 and also at Level Up in 2024.

Gemma's dance background spans into her childhood where she competed at a National level in a dance sport, Calisthenics. In her teens she was Head Cheerleader of her high school team so you could say that the evolution of Refinery Dance has been a long time coming. Most recently Gemma has trained in commercial jazz, hip hop, heels, salsa and of course, Bachata.


Being the first and only ConRi Style Certified Bachata Instructor in Oceania and in the first cohort of Traditional Bachata Certified Instructors by Carolina Rosa globally, Gemma demonstrates her commitment to ensuring her skill set is current so that her students get the best experience possible.

Her bachata style is best described as playful and musical. She's often commended on her versatility and authenticity in her dance.

Alvin Wibawa

Alvin’s dance journey began in 2017 with LA-style Salsa in Kuala Lumpur, where his passion for rhythm and connection first took root. Upon returning to Perth in 2020, he embraced the elegance and musicality of New York-style Salsa, deepening his technique and musical interpretation. After three years of gentle persuasion from Paris, Alvin transitioned to Bachata in August 2023—unlocking a new layer of expression and sensuality.

He has trained under renowned instructors including Woo (Woo y Illary), Pablo y Raquel, and currently Agustin y Alba, refining both his social dance finesse and performance quality. Alvin has completed a total of seven performances across his dance career, showcasing his versatility and commitment to growth on stage. Alvin also earned 3rd place in an International competition in 2025.

A regular face at international festivals across Europe, Asia, and Australia, Alvin’s recent highlights include Sensual Week in Cádiz and Salsa Bachata Temptations Asia in Bangkok. His style blends precision, musicality, and heartfelt connection—whether on the social floor or in training. Alvin is committed to always improving and always evolving.

Erick Ng

Erick is passionate about sharing his love for bachata with the community. He is one of the few in Perth who can dance as a lead and follow which means his contributions to the learning process of students is invaluable.

He’s a familiar face within the Perth community having taught and assisted in classes since 2023.

Erick is known for breaking down concepts to their core and using patterns to help students learn and remember with ease. Erick loves sharing the joy, interaction, and connection that make social dancing so special.
